*sigh*
Todas las aves no están ahí
None of the birds are here
Not all the birds are here  (big difference in meaning)
Is this normal Spanish?

I find this construction quite weird. I'd say "no todas las aves están ahí" - not all the birds are there-) :)

"En mayo sí que estarán las garzas, las fochas, las gallinillas y se verá el carrizo", explica Escuderos, ... Por el momento sólo se escuchan gaviotas.
Do they mean no birds at all, or not all ? If they mean not all the birds, then there seems little point in saying it.

There are some birds, but not all of them (they're migrants and it's winter here). :)
What do you mean with "little point"

What do you mean with "little point" :thinking:I can't see the point (purpose) of his saying it.
By the way, the birds are migratory, only people are migrants. :)

Why not?
All it is pointing at is that the species mentioned will be there in May and that at the moment there are only seagulls.

Just his way of speaking.
And thanks. :)

It could be a case of fronting* the subject in "No están ahí todas las aves". I can't see, though, why there's a need to emphasise it.

Maybe. But this is an interview and when one is speaking, one's mind works faster than ones mouth. So, sometimes one can say a not very common construction because his mind is thinking in another things.
