According to the British paper The Times, the producer of the ceremony
Bill Mechanic, who worked with Cameron in Titanic woundn't go a far as to say that the director has faced a joke that would have offended him.

I think I translated it well, but at first it was like putting together a puzzle.

It's true this is not the best kind of sentences ever, and it should have been split into two or three ones... still, some commas wouldn't have harmed:

My proposal:

According to the British paper The Times, the producer of the ceremony,
Bill Mechanic --who worked with Cameron in Titanic-- didn't dare to make the director face a joke that might have offended him.

That makes more sense. Thanks
