To rock someone's world
View Full Version : To rock someone's world

I've found this expression, for example, in the case of a man telling his girlfriend he loves her: "You rock my world".
And a friend of mine used it today, as he was telling about receiving some news that made him very happy: "Receiving this message rocked my very world".
I think I'd translate it as "cambiarle la vida a alguien", but this expression in Spanish can have a positive or a negative meaning, and as I see it, in English it's rather used in a positive sense.
What do you think?

I never thought of translating the term, a I certainly may be wrong, but if I had to, I would work with the verbs sacudir or despertar or abrir los ojos.

I hadn't thought about it as "abrir los ojos", but it's an interesting interpretation.
Thank you, Poli! :rose:

Entonces para decir, gracias por abrime los ojos, sería thank you for rocking my world????

Bueno.

¿Nunca has oido aquel refrán? En inglés se puede decir thank you for opening my eyes.

No creo que solo sea abrir los ojos.
Más bien "me llenó de felicidad" o literalmente "sacudió mi mundo"
No?
EDIT: Ade 'solo'

This one can have more than one meaning in English. It can mean the same as "sweeping me off my feet" where it's innocent love for a person that is making your head spin. It can also mean something of him/her giving the other extreme sexual pleasure. It can also mean where two people are boxing or some other contact sport and one person hits the other hard enough to addle or knock out the other. This also can be said as "He got rocked."
All of these depend on context. If you are talking to your friend and you ask "How are things with you and Sally?" and he says "She has rocked my world." You will know that it's in love. If instead you ask about your friend and Sally's sex life and he says "She rocks my world." then you will know that they had good sex. I hope this helps you.

I'm think that he's happiness in the moment.
You rock is my all.
You rock is my world.
You personality is my happiness.
I think that could be a slang of some kind of happy expression.:D
