I never seem to understand the verb "contar".
What does this sentence mean?
"Me ha escrito Daniel y ha dicho que la fiesta es el sábado, proque me ha contado que sus padres.."
and
"Os escribo para contaros novedades"

Contar can mean to count (in the sense of counting how many objects there are), to count (in the sense of being relevant), or here to recount (to tell, particularly to tell a story). So "...because he has told me that his parents..." and "I'm writing to you to tell you [my] news".
