ir a la deriva, sin rumbo, como dos naufragos a la deriva, se usa cuando la gente no tiene rumbo, no sabe por donde ir.

to be without direction
to go|drift|sail|head any which way
to be tossed about (any which way) (aimlessly)

Also, you could say something like
la sociedad va a la deriva = society has lost its sense of direction
la gente no tiene rumbo, no sabe por donde ir = people goes without direction, they don't know where to go
people has lost their sense of direction...
people drift aimlessly.
