I am being tutored in conversational Spanish by a Mexican profesora. She uses a lot of modismos y dichos... One that she used this afternoon is something like "ahuecando de (o el?) ala", meaning something like "irse". Right? She says it is muy, pero muy mexicano. Comments? Malila?

Ahuecar el ala means "open the/your wings and start flying away" = to go/depart.

Exactly that. It's informal. Don't use it with every person as it sounds like "go ... now".

"Ahuecar el ala" is indeed widely used in Mexico. It's too colloquial and addressed to someone else to ask them to leave immediately a place is rude, or one must have a very close relationship to them so they'll understand it as a joke and not be offended.
Ahueca el ala. No te quiero ver aquí.
Out of here now. I don't want to see you here.
A ver, niños, ahuecando el ala. Váyanse a hacer escándalo a otra parte.
Alright, children, get out of here right now. Go make your noise somewhere else.
Pues mejor voy ahuecando el ala. Ya se me hizo tarde para llegar a mi cita.
I'd better beat it. I'm already late for my appointment.

I like it. :) When I mentioned it to some of my Mexican students this morning, they all smiled. :D

Also used in Spain, but informal as stated.
Viene la policía, hay que ahuecar el ala. :D
Saludos :D

If I were to use the ustedes form, it would be "vayan ahuecando el ala", right?
