Translation help

I'm currently in the process of working my way through a Spanish book. After encountering a lot of issues with software or algorithm based translations (Google Translate and others), I came to the conclusion that languages should really be left up to people.

I've posted an excerpt from a book that I'm having a hard time understanding, which I've copied below:

What parts don't you understand?

it's a difficult sentence and it does not look like a homework.
I will try to wrote it down and I'm sure Rusty or other "english"-man will correct me

after staying some days in those places

ya tenía bien forjada su opinión y,

he had already made (forged) an opinion and,

en su concepto,

by his judgement,

este extraño país salvaje no había sido todavía bien explorado,

this fierce strange country was not already good explored

misión gloriosa sobre la tierra reservada a gente como él.
