    Hi!

What a coincidence! i have lived in Uruguay four years.
The culture is very alike and the language too. The main difference is in the usage of some words -that aren't real spanish, like "burices" to call children...- and synonyms.(Form Argentina's hand: there are still some words in Lunfardo that are common, but they are very informal and obviously not spanish) But it's almost the same. If you understand an Uruguayan, you can understand an Argentinian the same way, and viceversa. The accent is a little bit different but that is almost imposible to develop correctly unless you live near an uruguayan! In Argentina you have many States with different accents(very very different).. Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta... etc.

The culture for me is equal... tango, mate, dulce de leche, gauchos, fútbol, etc. Even some lunfardo words are very common in Uruguay!

Thanks for the welcome and i'm glad i could help. Sorry for the mistakes i could made, I'm not that good at english... Yet!

Hello, Hola! Ah yes well I guess we're a lot alike then because I like to pack my things too with every chance I get. So I guess you saw quite a bit of Europe too. Which places did you like best and why? Although Denmark, Sweden and Norway are close I confess I've never been there, as I usually travelled south with the exception of Great Britain. A band? Haha wow..Did you play in this band as well, what kind of music was it? I have travelled to many places in Europe (Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Turkey, Cyprus,Greece (many islands), Sicily etc some of which I visited quite a few times.) Furthermore Morocco and Central America (CR,Mexico,Belize, Guatamala,Panama a.o). I'd love to see so much more in L. America especially, and for this Spanish will be really handy.(I was able to get around but to talk to people, make friends, would make it extra great! ) That's my main goal for now but who knows later on..live there for a while?

Ah I see. Yes I imagine there are many people from Latin America living in NY. Here there are some also, but not quite as many- in the years I have lived here I have only met a few and that was predominantly when my friends and I were still Salsa dancing. But it's hard to talk with loud music and dancing, even if it is good fun. I live in Amsterdam. Have you ever been to anywhere else except Denmark, and why did you go to Denmark if I may ask? It's not something you hear a lot I guess usually when people come to Europe theygo to Paris,London,Madrid,Rome etc.

Ah I see..Since October,no that' s not long yet. I myself have been actively learning for about 2,5 months now (give or take).I feel the same way, the 'active' part i.e. talking and writing - is definitely the hardest!Reading is ok because you have context and it's not too difficult to guess the meaning of the words. The grammar is hard though i.e. the conjugations, the use of impf vs. indefinido, ser/estar etc. It's all a matter of getting used to things surely which will take time. I would love to go to Peru actually, did you visit Machu Pichu as well? There are so many places yet to see in Latin America, and like you being able to talk to people while travelling is an important motivator for me.Did you meet your friend when you were there?Yes you're right there are similar sounds between Dutch and Scandinavian languages, all have a German heritage.I can read eg some Danish or Swedish though the grammar is easier than Dutch I am told by a Swedish friend of mine. Ah yes I read about that very sorry to hear that! Hope she will be doing better soon! Unfortunately my Spanish isn't good enough to help you (if you were writing it in Dutch I gladly would ). You seem to be doing quite well though, have you been studying Spanish for a long time? Also I was wondering, I hope this isn't a strange question, but your nick sounds quite intriguing. Is it a Spanish word or something out of a novel maybe? Just out of curiosity. I am loving these studies a lot, I am so glad I finally pressed on to do it, I love it more every day in fact and it's such a kick to see yourself progressing even if it is slowly, don't you think?!
