Yes. (Edit: Just read the other thread. Now I get it!) How about this joke, which is as old as I am. It's from the days of the 'Music Hall' where people sang and told jokes on stage. The joke would be told as a conversation between two people, and would start "I say, I say, I say" which signalled a joke:

"I say, I say, I say" - I have a dog with no nose!

No nose? How does he smell?

Terrible !

No puedo ir dormir asi leo los chistes:)

irmamar September 24, 2010 03:19 AM

Los chistes te despejarán. Tienes que leer algo aburrido. :D

Perikles, I understand the joke :D. But I didn't understand "I say, I say,...".

It has no mind so it cannot think. It has no physical body but yet it moves swiftly. It has no physical appearance and therefore cannot be seen. It is not a king or someone in high authority and yet men follow its whims. Man needs it for everything he does. Man will not exist without it. What is it? And please translate it in Spanish. Thank you.

Gracias. :D

No sé. ¿El aire?

It is just a formulaic expression (without meaning) with the message "Here comes a joke" from the days when a joke needed to be announced. :)

irmamar September 24, 2010 04:14 AM

Do you mean that the jokes don't need to be anounced? We say: ¡Eh! ¡Me han contado un chiste más bueno...! :D

Por cierto, otro:

¿Qué le dice un lobo a una loba?
I love you.

:D

@Irmamar, thank you for translating the riddle. Your guess is close but it is not the answer. Another clue: People are always anxious to know what it is even though they know what it is and what it does.

irmamar September 24, 2010 05:12 AM

Duplicado y corregido

La gente siempre está ansiosa de saber qué es, incluso sabiendo qué es y qué hace.

¿El pensamiento?

¿El pensamiento?

You are using it even as you think:). Quiere que dar la repuesta ahora o te dan mas pistas?

irmamar September 24, 2010 05:50 AM

Pistas, pistas... :D

vita32 September 24, 2010 06:22 AM

You try to hurry to keep up with it. People say it flies but it has no wings. People ask: "where did it go" when it is always here. :)

Perikles September 24, 2010 06:29 AM

Time flies. Tempus fugit.

I did not want to give this "flies" clue because it's easily associated with time, at least in English. I wonder if this saying "time flies" is common in many languages, is it a saying also in Spanish? and what about the phrase, "where did the time go?" Is there a similar saying in spanish or Italian?
Thanks:)

Thank you for playing the guessing game with me, I'm very sure that you would have guessed it with my last clues. Now it's your turn to let me guess your riddle, if you would like.:)

Perikles September 24, 2010 06:53 AM

OK - what is made by somebody for somebody he does not know, and who does not want it, and does not know it when he is using it?

poli September 24, 2010 07:42 AM

Carbon dioxide? --but that's not made for somebody.:hmm:

How about a casket?

Is that the same as a coffin? Dang - you are not supposed to get it so quickly.
