I'm wondering what level of comprehension you consider to be understanding? True cognates aside, it wasn't my experience that I could read and understand "a lot" after just a few months, especially when approaching specialized subject matter like religion, science, computers, etc., so I don't share those kind of expectations for a new learner. |
