Thanks for all of these explanations. They are definitely helpful!! I'm still a hold-out on the true difference between "to hope" and "to expect", but I'll have to keep looking for "esperar" in context, and see......
Espero que mi hermano venga esta tarde. (I hope that my brother comes this afternoon. It's not definite, but I'd love to see him.) Espero que mi hermano venga esta tarde. (My brother is coming this afternoon, and if you come over for coffee, you can expect him to be there, too.) I'll keep noodling with it.................. |
