Don't you go monolingual about dictionaries? :-o

Just one, we cherish it here in Spain

Diccionario Ideológico de la lengua española.
De la palabra a la idea, de la idea a la palabra.
Julio Casares

This is the dictionary journalists and writers have at home. It reminds me of an english one called 'Word Menu'

Cheers :)

Crotalito,

Try dictionary.com Using monolingual dictionaries or a mixture of both will improve your English.

T Tomisino offers a dictionary which is acceptable and it offers a convenient link to the best monolingual dictionary in Spanish (RAE) and
Websters in English.

Yes, and thanks for your counsel, Planet Hopper

¡Hola a todos!

The dictionary that I use the most is the Oxford unabridged Spanish-English-Spanish, and that is because I've bought it for my mobile phone, and therefore have it readily available. Also, I find that it's very good regarding explaining in what contexts you use the different terms, and this is important. I've also used Harper-Collins online, and I think it's a pretty close race between the two on overall quality, breadth and depth. If neither give me an answer, I try the RAE dictionary, then jergasdehablahispana and/or asihablamos. If I'm still coming up short, wikipedia and google. I also have other dictionaries available, but I find that this is my normal procedure overall.

Saludos :)

It's good to hear from you!

Yep, having just one dictionary isn't enough. I also rely on some of the sites you listed. Idioms are a killer.

Vikingo October 30, 2008 11:36 AM

Thanks :)

Idioms are absolutely a killer, and also where and exactly how words and expressions are used.

Take care :)
