Just returned from a one week holiday in Lanzarote.
My Spanish is very much still at the beginner level, It was encouraging for me that what I did manage to communicate in my pigeon Spanish was understood. I had to ask the hotel receptionist for the phrase to have people answer me more slowly “más despacio por favor” What was surprising was she said I was the first English person to ever ask her about the Spanish language. |

Not really relevant for me, but I am curious about what were the difficulties for a native Spanish speaker when they were learning English?

It's similar... you know, you need to get familiarity with the sounds, the intonations... I learned English in Europe, then I arrived to Los Angeles, to find out that majority of people spoke... Spanish!!!
Jokes aside, I couldn't understand the way Californians spoke... but as you keep listening and trying to talk, you start getting the hang of it... |
I was watching a Spanish cooking show the presenter obviously pointing at something said
¿Cómo se llama? To which he replied “Me llamo Serguo” . Followed laughter and a joke I think, about her español. Just curios about the joke of no importance so posted here, if anyone could answer. |
The question "¿Cómo se llama?" is ambiguous, since it's in the third person. It could mean "What's your name?", "What's his name?", "What's her name?" or "What's its name?"
The presenter was most likely asking the name of a dish (What's its name?) and the my-name-is reply caught everyone else off-guard. |

Este es mi primero vez al escribir en castellano. Uso la palabra castellano porque muy pronto viaje a mallorca. Escribiendo este mensaje es muy claro que me entiendo mucho mas que puedo usar. ¿Quiero saber primero, si entiendes este escrito? Segundo ¿si es posible corregir todo mis faltas y explicar mis faltas en idioma castellano? La gente aquí está muy amble y espero alguien pueda ayudarme. Aunque este mensaje es muy corta, hay mas bastante aquí para Rusty o otras. ¡que seguro! Gracias adiós |
