It sounds a bit strange to add first after beat me, when it is used to mean ganar.

So, the sentence should be:
I wanted to help you, but Rusty beat me to it. -or-
... , but Rusty beat me.

Yes, but you understood my message right, I make sure that you have understood me, in my last post, you beat me to it.

I think it would make more sense to say "Like all of you here, I am learning more than one languages. I am also learning a new culture."
;)
