You are using that stuff with the sentence al lado or aun lado, let me telling you, they are both does mean the same, you can use the word aun lado as aside and as side, then if you can use both words is ok, because they seems like in own built.

I'm side of my home.

I'm aside of my home.

you don't need the of in the sentence. You can just say "I'm beside my brother". Beside is a preposition. Take away the of and your sentence will make more sense :)
