No, I would have to say that it doesn't (for now). Maybe later it will. What delays my advancing is when I try to listen to the movie without the subtitles and don't understand even one word of the spoken Spanish. But the second I turn on the subtitles, I understand much of both (subtitles and spoken words). I'm not saying this will be something that I will do for the rest of the time that I work at learning Spanish. It's simply helpful for now.....

I know also you do not believe it is holding you up... I just try to give you what I know. :)

Seriously, I know that eventually (sooner rather than later) it will be GOOD for me to NOT use the subtitles! But I'm only just beginning the process of using Spanish versions of movies, and I was startled at how LITTLE I understood (when using only Spanish voice overs) of a movie with which I'm VERY familiar.... :(

Laepelba quizás te dar algo consejo, trata de mirar las noticias, y tiempo (weather) porque ya vas a saber el sujeto de lo que hablan.:) entiendo más de las noticias que las películas (lo que son más interesantes por supuesto:):)) porque es fácil para entenderlas/seguirlas (follow them)

"The spoken word" is a frequently used English expression, but it does not have a direct equivalent in colloquial Spanish, however I would be inclined to say that -la palabra dicha- would be a closer approximation for it.

Intentas de mirar las noticias (not a las noticias) - porque ya vas a saber el sujeto de que hablan - (conocer is more widely used to indicate personal acquaintance).

I was born in Santiago, Chile, lived there for 25 years and then I came to the USA.

I have heard that phrase there and here, as a matter of fact I have also read it.

Sometimes the spoken word differs from the written word. This causes confusion. :D

Allí encontraran a Cortázar (por si no lo conocen, gran escritor argentino) leyendo algunos de sus cuentos y otra miscelánea. Me parece útil porque: 1) por supuesto que usa un excelente español ; 2) relata bien, aunque los audios son viejos y hay algo de descarga en algunos ; 3) son hermosos los cuentos.

Tener la precaución de, las primeras veces que se escuche alguno, hacerlo con el escrito a mano hasta que el oido se acostumbre. No vendría mal un diccionario y google tampoco.

Recomiendo: "Casa Tomada", "Continuidad de los Parques", "Más sobre escaleras"
Importante: NO es una lectura para principiantes, aunque sí sirve para entrenar el oído tratando de escribir lo que se escucha.

(con un reproductor como VLC, pueden abrir todos los archivos)

De Borges hay muchisimos audios de sus poemas y entrevistas, recitados excelentemente por su propia voz. Si alguien quiere le paso algunos enlaces por pm, pero vale aclarar que es una lectura muy dificil. Más que nada para practicar audición amenos que sean avanzados. (pero con paciencia y dedicandole suficiente tiempo a cada una se puede)

En fin, es lo que yo creo da un mejor resultado. Pasar un buen momento leyendo algo que te agrada mientras lo escuchas y lo repetis a la par o con retraso del audio.

:lol::lol: Estaba en san diego y muchas de las personas allí hablan español, por eso estaba practicando mi español. Aquí donde vivo nadie habla español me parece.:( Pero como dijiste hay muchas películas en español:thumbsup:
