Learning English with videos - Page 2

I didn't actually watch the whole video to catch his comments on grammar ....... BUT, I have to say, Perikles, that you make me sad.......... :(:( ...... his accent is very American. Is our speech so repulsive to Brits? Personally, I love to hear a British accent. I suppose it makes me sad that someone with a British accent can't listen to an American one for a couple of minutes............ :(:(

I'm sorry, it was a comment about this person specifically, not American accents generally (honest). His body language doesn't help either. The truth is that there are some American accents I like, and some which I find absolutely disgusting. (The same could be said for various British accents as well - I absolutely hate the Irish accent and the Birmingham accent, and apologies to anybody here in advance). I like (for example) the accent of Humphrey Bogart and John Wayne, but I don't particularly like that of President Obama (can I get arrested for saying that?).

I suppose I am rather intolerant, but I can't help it. Sorry.

I can't help it = ¿no puedo evitarlo?

En cuanto a los acentos, hay algunos acentos EEUUenses que por alguna razón me suenan muy insinceros. :erm:

Ahhh ... I see. Well, to be honest, I'm from New York ... not NYC, but "Upstate". My accent isn't a "true" NY accent, but people from other places often think that it DOES sound like a NYC accent. And, I must admit that I really do NOT like NYC accents or accents from the Northeastern US. I LOVE to listen to a good Southern Drawl, though! :)

@Perikles: I agree with you, but now I'm relieved it's not my fault actually that I can't speak English easily, quickly and automatically.

Really the person speaks very slowly and well just it good, because the people who doesn't speak the English very well and less they hear the English appropriately then, they have the change to understand at most everything said the guy in the video.

Congratulation for the contribution.
