¡Interesante! Yo nunca había escuchado la palabra "bonita" para significar "tidy"

To me the word "bonita" is used to say something or someone is nice, pretty, etc. but not "tidy".

Hmm - this might be colloquial BrE, tidy in the sense of nice as in (quoting from dictionary)

Había conseguido ahorrar una bonita cantidad.
He'd managed to save a tidy little sum of money.

Well, in this case, the chapter on the preterit comes before the chapter on the imperfect, so it would't be "pensaba". There is probably some kind of correct grammatical reason ... but that's MY reason. :D
