When I was starting to learn English (as I am right now...) I'd get really flustered if I had to talk to an audience of more than 20... something that would not happen to me when talking in Spanish... (I can tell you about feeling "retarded" in a big way...) And to one degree or another one may sound "retarded" or simply "foreign" or "uneducated" or whatever... The bottom line is that if you don't practice you are not going to develop the skill... any skill for that matter.

So, there you have my 2 Euros... (cents are getting cheaper every day...) ;) :D

Living in South Texas, I've found that the word-changing kind of Spanglish (as opposed to say, substituting a Spanish word into an otherwise English sentence) tends to annoy people. My grandma knew enough Spanish from her mother so that she could understand when a customer used a Spanish word every now and then, but sometimes a customer would use a lot of made-up Spanglish words and she just could not make sense of what they were trying to say.
