Playwrites - Irish Hell Playwrites - Russian (yes, I know Chekov is revered, but that reverence is is dutiful. If you're true to yourself, you know Chekov is torture) Who me? I'm not opinionated. |
don't speak bad about Chejov, I love his short tales ............ I think it's the only funny Russian writer I have read :D
Others are always sad... |
I think I read some of his short stories in college, but recently I saw his play "The Seagull" o "La Gaviota" on stage . It was so dreary that even the beautiful actress Kristin Scott Thomas didn't make matters better. It seemed like an old sad relic of late romantic era's glorification of adolescent suicide. At least it didn't glorify suicide in a public spaces popular these days among zealots, but that's about the only good thing I could say about it.:(
There's a light movie parody of it called "Smiles on a Summer Night" directed by Ingmar Bergman who wasn't famous for comedy, but he certainly suceeded in that movie. It covered everything "The Seagull" covered but with a wiser and less opressive point of view. |
I aldo found "The seagull" boring....
Chejov it's a little sa, but the short stories are very good, like Kipling's I will look for some for you to read. Saludos :D |
Gracias Sosia
