Jessica. I have an idea about. I was thinking about your practice in the words restaurant or when you was asking us a food menu.

If you have chance to go some restaurant in your city, I believe that is opportune that you copy the restaurant's menu in a paper. And I believe that it could to be more explicit in your homework and in your grade when you have to present the work made for you.

Then if you are going today some restaurant or where sell food then you have the opportunity to copy it.

I don't understand you much....are you saying to go to a restaurant and get a menu?

Yes. I recommended you before that you was to a restaurant and you ask food any food that you want. But when you have the menu in your hands then you must copy some menus wrote here in the menu.

I changed your sentences to use the indefinite articles because the definite articles are used for a specific item. If the menu had only one type of taco on it, then it would be OK to say los tacos.

When you're in a restaurant, however, and ordering food, I've never heard anyone use pedir, although I wouldn't rule out something like pido que me traiga. I prefer to use quiero or tráigame.

That being said, if you visit a restaurant the waiter will often ask ¿Están listos para ordenar? This is because s/he is waiting for a command. Your answer could be 'Sí, quiero (menu item)' or 'Sí, tráigame (menu item).' The latter is a command, but may be considered a bit presumptious. Listen to what others are saying around you to get a feel for the proper tone to use with the waiter. :)

That has nothing to do with what I was trying to say. I was trying to say that you don't use pedir when you're ordering food in a restaurant. You use it when you're talking about ordering (past, present or future), but not when actually ordering. That's why I said narrative. If you're relating a story about ordering food, the use of pedir is proper. :)

oh well since my restaurant I chose is a buffet, you only can order drinks. So I can say

"You can order different kinds of drinks."

and in that case I use pedir? (I think yes)

Yes, if you're talking about the restaurant, you can tell your friend 'puedes pedir refrescos/bebidas diferentes'.

It's good, so far. I would say you don't order instead of you can't order. The stuff you didn't translate uses words (and a verb mood) you don't know. Better choose other wording.

I agree with Rusty's answer. The word Pedir (To ask). It's not appropriate to ask food in a restaurant. The word Pedir is mostly used when you ask something someone. For example.

Te pido un aventon.

Te pedi un aventon.

Instead the word ordering is used when you are ordering food in some place as a restaurant. I think that you must use the word ordering instead of Pedir.

I will have a fresh water. *_*

Tambien se puede usar el verbo dar o querer cuando ordene una comida.

Dar may sound a bit direct, but, if your tone is right, it shouldn't offend, and you will be understood.

But as I said you before you mustn't use the word perdir only ordernar.

If you even't have learnt this verb then is time that you learn it.:)
