Some corrections. :)

Thanks Irmamar - just one question, why is it "se acaba" and not "es acaba"? I am really struggling to grasp the usage of se!

irmamar September 26, 2010 01:13 PM

"Acabar", int its pronominal form is "acabarse", so you need the pronoun to conjugate it. "Es" is a form of "ser", which makes no sense here. The correct pronoun is "se" in this sentence. However, you could say "se está acabando", with "estar", but you need the pronoun, too. Is it clearer now? :)

Thanks :) Its clearer, but we will see if I mess up next time

Try to write some sentences with some pronominal verbs. ;)

I will - I just need to find out what a pronominal verb is first :D

irmamar September 27, 2010 01:24 AM

Look here. :)

funkcanna September 27, 2010 01:29 AM

Thanks thats a great site!

Do you think it would help if I practiced by listing a few pronominal verbs in the infinitive then conjugated them using reflexive pronouns?

irmamar September 27, 2010 01:33 AM

Do you mean, for instance with "dormirse" something like:

Dormirse:

Yo me duermo.
Tú te duermes.
Él se duerme.
etc.

I think it's good. But do a complete sentence.

Yo siempre me duermo pronto.

You can take any verb, of course. :)

acordarse - to remember

Me acuerdo que cuando éramos jóvenes (I remember when we were young)

Te acordaste de traer la cerveza (You remembered to bring the beer)

Él no se acordaría su cabeza si no adjuntó (He would not remember his head if it was not attached)

¿Os acordaréis a sacar la basura? (Will you (plural) remember to take out the trash?)

EDIT: Just to clarify, am I right when I say that If the action of the verb (remembering in this example) is done by the subject (Yo, Tu, El etc) then the verb will be the pronominal verb and not the standard verb and will be used with a reflexive pronoun (Se, Te, Os, Nos etc)?

¿Ves como no es tan difícil? :)

Hello.

Good morning.

I will correct you some many mistakes in your last post.

Dos errores es mejor de lo acontumbrado.

I hope you can understand me and it can be useful for you.

Sincerely yours.

Thanks Crotalito, I appreciate it :)

By the way, I just want to say that I have opened the exact same thread on a couple of other "spanish learning" forums and this one is the only one I have had actual good help - so thank you to everyone who has responded and corrected my errors, it really is helping me.

irmamar October 04, 2010 02:34 AM

You're welcome. :)

But "acostumbrado". ;)

CrOtALiTo October 04, 2010 10:01 AM

You're welcome.

Great man.

And well with reference to your message in my inbox, I have answered you right now.

Thank you for the advance.

Hola a todos, ¿qué tal?

Esta semana he estado muy ocupando con trabajo, pero esta ha sido muy divertido. La boda que fotografié ayer por la noche ha sido increíble. Los novios son locos. Hubo una bailarina del vientre. Es bueno tener las fotos de una bailarina del vientre para mi cartera...claro, esto es la única razón que lo disfruté. Jaja ;)

I think I have messed up some verb conjugation in this as I struggled to choose the tenses...
