My verb book has it as a gerund. I thought those were "ings?"

Pensando would be the word you're looking for in the gerund.

I'm really struggling to use other tenses. Just when I think I have a good grasp of them, when I use them, they are totally wrong. I couldn't understand the link to the studyspanish site either. Very confusing.

Pardon the interruption, but a Spanish word that ends in -ando/-iendo is NOT a gerund. One of its Spanish names is gerundio, but that is NOT translated into English as 'gerund'. An English gerund is a noun. A Spanish gerundio never functions as a noun. So, you see, the two words are false friends.

You may also call the Spanish gerundio un participio presente.

Spanish has an equivalent to the English gerund, by the way. It is the infinitive.

Well that's news to me. My Spanish teachers have always said it was the gerund.

Was more of a practice paragraph, but I am having problems. :) I think I understand how the tenses work, but I think when I use them, they don't make sense as my pronouns are wrong? I'm not sure.

'Cuestión' doesn't mean a question like in English, it means like "a matter". Pregunta, the noun from "preguntar" is used in this context.

I fixed some of your simple errors, but I put in red the errors that you should try to change on your own. Remember what I said about pensado, it's the past particle. That literally says "Thought I was better" (without any personal pronoun) but it doesn't really sound natural, so i suggest a total rewording. If you have any questions about what I corrected, let me know.

Moving on, what are the verbs you're having trouble with? What tenses?

The past participle 'pensado' isn't a verb. It can't be conjugated, and it can't be used alone as a verb. It is used in conjunction with the verb haber to make the compound tenses, and only haber is conjugated in those tenses.

(yo) he pensado = I have thought
(él) ha pensado = he has thought
(nosotros) hemos pensado = we have thought

yo había pensado = I had thought
él había pensado = he had thought
(nosotros) habíamos pensado = we had thought

To properly say the sentence we think you were trying to write in Spanish, don't start with the slang 'Thought I was better'. Use 'I thought that ...'. Armed with a subject and a verb, figure out which tense is needed and conjugate the infinitive 'think' into the correct tense, taking care to match the person with the subject. Again, the subject pronoun can be omitted if it is clear which person is intended. The word 'that' is absolutely necessary in your Spanish translation.

You made some mistakes in your last post however you need to improve the Spanish, anyway they can't offend to anyone, but you wouldn't use them meanwhile.
