The reason that I ask is because I always thought is was: "detras de".

But in the movie Cria Cuervos, where the little girls are playing hide and go seek, the little girl who was "it" announced that the other one was "...atras de las matas." At least I think that I head it that way, and I played in back several times.

Perhaps I should ask "What is the most generally accepted and common form?"

I am still confused on this one.

Claro que puedes oír :bad: atrás de... Se lo has oído a Crotalito, hablante nativo de español. Pero no es, ni mucho menos, la mayoría de la población la que utiliza esta forma. Por el contrario, esta forma se tiene por vulgar incluso en América, donde su uso está más extendido.



Un uso correcto de atrás sería:

• Muévete atrás.

Es decir, como adverbio de lugar indicando dirección en un movimiento, pues atrás se compone de la preposición a, que indica movimiento. Obviamente, es un contrasentido utilizar un adverbio que denota movimiento para expresar una idea estática, como :bad: estoy atrás de la matas.

Your wife and you are discussing the usage, not the correction. Ask your wife: what do you usually say, atrás de or detrás de? To know if an expression is correct or not, you should consider what grammarians have said about it. They base their decisions upon what people commonly say. There exist about 450 millions of native Spanish speakers. You cannot know if a expression is correct or not just by asking your wife, unless she's a good linguist and consider the grammar rules we are talking about.

On the other hand, when speaking about grammar, phrases are not more or less correct. They can only be correct or not.

Yeah, I've asked her, about of the use of it, and she commonly has used detras de, then apart, I've heared to the people speaking, what's native Spanish speakers, they say atras de, well, upon the form of expression, I think, what it will be distintic always, 'cause all the people has diferent form of speak although, you say it, what the form more correct to say atras de, it's better to say detras de, all we've distintic way to think, but, you've the reason the form more correct to say it's detras de.

Gracias for correjirme querido Alfonso. Creo que no entendiste mi respuesta. Dije que aunque detrás de es gramaticamente correcto, hay muchas personas que usan atras de.

Pero quizás sea por esta razón......

Yo pienso que lo bonito es tener conversaciones con personas de todo nivel social y poder entender lo que se está hablando, ¿no crees? Pero, tambien creo que uno debe aprovechar toda oportunidad para mejorar y aprender.
