Mi dormitorio ideal

Mi dormitorio ideal

For homework, we have to draw a picture of what our dream room would look like. lol I am a bad artist and so jealous of people who are SO good at drawing. I worked on most of it in class, and I'm actually proud of my drawing, though I still wish I was good at drawing.
We also have to label los muebles and give a description of the room.

Are these correct (just making sure :)):
*pillow: la almohada
*backpack: la mochila
*jewelry box: ??
*laptop: el laptop
*lamp: la lámpara
*pencil sharpener:
afilalápices
NM
cortalápices
NM
saca
NF
sacapuntasMX
sacapuntas
NM

Which one?
is it saca?

steps (stairs): los escalones
:)

En México es muy común oír la laptop del inglés, aunque también a veces dicen el portátil.

Wait, is it el laptop or el portátil? which is correct?
Never mind. El portátil is the same as el laptop so it can be both?

CrOtALiTo November 29, 2008 06:29 PM

Yes the same it.

Jessica November 29, 2008 07:46 PM

Correction: Yes, it is the same
:) :) :)

David wrote la laptop. In Spain, they use el portátil and, according to some dictionaries, they also use el laptop, but on this side of the globe it's la laptop.

Tomisimo November 29, 2008 07:55 PM

In my estimation, and from what I have heard used in Mexico, la laptop is the most common usage. I have also heard el laptop. I guess it depends on how the speaker thinks about it. If (in Spanish) laptop is thought of as a separate new entity, it would be el laptop, but if they are thinking of it as la computadora laptop, where laptop is an adjective, then it would be la laptop.

Crotalito, ¿Tu dirías "el laptop" o "la laptop"? ¿Cuál te suena más natural?

Jessica November 29, 2008 08:21 PM

it's like dentista - el/la dentista
el/la laptop.....hmm

CrOtALiTo November 30, 2008 12:27 AM

Ok, David, I used the this La laptop, because the phrase El laptop sound very bad, and above the word Jessica said in her previous post about the La/El dentista, it's used depending of the gender, for example you can't to say El dentista when the person is female instead of El dentista this last phrase is a accurate because, the person is male, then in the weir of the word Laptop, I think what the word Laptop would be better heard as La laptop instead of El laptop, and I think to never mind as you can to say that only you must to think in the best chose to say the word.

Jessica November 30, 2008 08:31 AM

wait how would el laptop be "bad"?

It sounds wrong to a Mexican. They prefer la laptop.

Jessica November 30, 2008 08:45 AM

oh ok Mexicans and Spaniards can be so different I knew that.

CrOtALiTo November 30, 2008 09:05 AM

Yes, never mind as you want to say La laptop or El laptop, the problem is that the word or phrase El laptop sound very bad

It look like to my laptop or Esa laptop these two choses are better heard in Spanish.

Jessica December 01, 2008 10:46 AM

okay to you, el laptop doesn't make sense, but la laptop does. I'm not sure which is the correct one to use but this project was done long time ago. I got a 100 on it :)

CrOtALiTo December 01, 2008 11:16 AM

Yes, you must weir La laptop.

Jessica December 01, 2008 11:22 AM

weir isn't a word, Crotalito. Do you mean weird? It can also mean strange.
Correction: Yes, La laptop is werid.
