Other languages you would like to learn

Other languages you would like to learn

Are there any other languages you would like to learn, besides Spanish?

I would like to learn Hindi, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Danish, Italian, Portuguese, and German.

;D

I would probably continue studying German, and after that, Italian/French/Dutch/Portuguese, Japanese would also be interesting, and I'm considering one of the native languages of Mexico like Otomí or Nahuatl. But realistically, I'm not going to have time to dedicate to all of them, so I just keep plugging away at German for the time being.

Why do you need to learn Italian? Do you have an Italian gf? Actually if you already know Spanish you have a 50% off coupon for Italian ;D

Actually, I want to read Dante's Divine Comedy in the original Italian at some point in the future. And it's just such a cool language.

Do you know like what percentage of people ever become fluent?

Tomisimo May 07, 2007 10:53 PM

Hola bleak,

The main conditions that make the subjunctive kick in are:

Uncertainty:
No estoy seguro que venga - I'm not sure she'll get here.

A Wish:
Quisiera que fueras conmigo - I wish you'd go with me

An Emotion:
Me gusta que que hables español - I like the fact that you speak Spanish.

Certain impersonal expressions:
Es dudoso que vengo - It's doubtful that he will come.
Ojalá que venga - Hopefully he will come.

A Doubt
Dudo que venga - I doubt he'll come.

A Request
Te pido que vengas a la casa - I'd like to ask you to come to the house.

i want to learn French and German. but before that happens Spanish is my first priority... then comes french

I figure that being able to speak English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and brush up a little on my Carribean patua, would allow me to converse with nearly anyone in the Americas.
