Do I have an allergy???

Do I have an allergy???

It's so odd, I've never been allergic to anything before until last month.... something odd happened. My nose felt really itchy and it seemed like I wanted to sneeze but I couldn't. It was really uncomfortable for my nose and my eyes. My eyes become watery. I told this to my mom, and she said it could be an allergy. I took an allergy pill and the next day I felt better.

Today it happened again.

Would you say this is an allergy? Well, it could be, but I have no idea what I am allergic to. It doesn't happen everyday.

Fazor May 01, 2009 02:34 PM

Sounds like an allergy, but those symptoms can also be brought on by overly dry or overly humid air, among other things.

This time of year, there's a lot of pollen and grass "dust" in the air. I never had allergies to those things until I got older, and allergies can certainly develop throughout your life.

On the flip side of things, as a child I was extremely allergic to cats and some dogs. Now, that allergy has gone away for the most part. Cats will still bother me after a while, but I can pet them and be fine as long as I'm careful not to touch my face/eyes afterward. Most dogs don't bother me anymore either, but some can still get me.

@Jessica: you must see a doctor. They're the only ones who can find out if there is an allergy and to what...

Feel better soon!

Jessica May 01, 2009 03:26 PM

usually the next day I feel fine

As Angelica said, you should go to see a doctor. I live with several allergies and it's not easy to live with them, although there are medicines which help you to feel better. Maybe it's not an allergy, just sensibility (I have sensibility to acarus, too) and the symptoms are not so unpleasant as allergy ones. Good luck!

Firstly you need to go to a doctor, we are not doctors to give you a result about your health, but I'm allergic, I don't know to that am allergic because I didn't go to a doctor, but I will go soon because if you have allergic to something always you will be stick any illness and well it's some ugly for the person affected.

the only symptoms I have is the itchy nose and watery eyes. that's it. I'll talk to my mom about it. Today I have none of those symptoms. My mom may say that we don't need to see a doctor, because the pill(s) work for me.

It seems an acarus allergy. You should use a vacuum cleaner everyday, even in your bed, or change the sheets every day and cleaning them with a very hot water. Acarus are very resistant.

We don't use the term acarus (acari is the plural form, by the way).

irmamar May 02, 2009 02:01 PM

I've looked the term up in a dictionary and there was the term acarus. Of course, that is a Latin word and plural should be acari. Thanks.

Pienso que sensibitlity/sesibilidad son false friends.

Jessica,
In Pennsylvania in May most of the trees are in bloom.
This causes many people to sneeze and feel uncomfortable.
As Fazor and others have said sometimes people become allergic to things later in life. Welcome to the club.

Sorry, I had to look up at the dictionary before writing. Yes, I meant sensitivity (or I think so).
And it's true that allergies appear later. I used to eat strawberries and now I'm allergic to strawberries and I won't be able to eat ever more. Well, I have a few more, if anyone wishes an allergy, I can give what you want.
In Spain we say also: Bienvenido al club.
Now I'm receiving an homeopathic treatment which works well with me, better than traditional medicine.

(1) "Miedoso" is someone who has fear (of almost anything). "Temible" is something you fear.

That's very likely to have happened. In former times people "just died" of diseases for which we know the cause and/or the cure only in recent times. :worried:
