thanks for the welcome postings. i'm hoping to be of help to
esl students whenever i can. i'm a retired english teacher, and
also taught spanish as a second language.

tambien me gustaria suavizar mi espanol puesto que hace un rato que
no tengo oportunidad de conversar con otros de habla espanola.
creo que mi uso del castellano se encuentra un poco torpe por falta
de practica desde hace muchos anos, asi podriamos ayudarnos uno
al otro mientras seguimos nuestros estudios.

esta muy bien estar aqui, hermit

Bob, no se dice eso de "habilidades españolas", suena muy raro (a Chiquito de la Calzada, un humotista de aquí :D ). Mejor: "para mejorar tu español" ;)

Your Spanish is perfect, I grasp to see any mistake in your Spanish, you are great, I guess it because you was a teacher before, but if you want to improve your Spanish is right, but the better solution in that situation is that you help to me jijij, because I need to improve my English, you leave me, I tell you, I have near one year learning the English, each day I get better but I need to speak it too, therefore I ask help with it.:D

If you allow me, I'll give some suggestions:

I don't understand really what you mean with "suavizar", because suavizar means to make something softer :confused: . Maybe you meant "mejorar".

"Hace un rato" means "hace poco rato". I guess you wanted to say "hace tiempo".

"ayudarnos los unos a los otros", el uno al otro is used when there are just two persons.

I suppose accents an ñ are missing because of the keyboard :)

And, as Crotalito, I want a particular teacher, too :D (this is a joke)

I believe that is acceptable your commentary Irmamar, but I could to understand the word Suavisar in her text, I believe that is valid the use of that words at least in my spelling can use it, I don't know if on Spain does not accept as here, but I believe that if you have the correction about the mistake made is right.

Now, I though that you are a teacher....:thinking:

I maintain I'm not a teacher, I'm a technician, just like you ;)

Do you say "suavizar"? I didn't know. And which is its meaning, mejorar? :confused: Yo suavizo mi piel con una crema hidratante, pero mejoro mi inglés estudiando. :)

Speaking for Hermit I would guess she wanted to say smoothen
her Spanish and chose the verb suavizar

si, mejorar es lo que queria decir. hube oido 'suavizar' pero es vaga la
memoria del contexto preciso.

muy bien lo de 'rato/tiempo', y 'los unos a los otros' - estos son ejemplos
de frases que se me van olvidando.

claro, mi keyboard no tiene ni acentos ni tildes, etc.
