World AIDS Day
1 Attachment(s)
Attachment 283 Since today is World AIDS Day, I thought I'd post this informative video about VIH/SIDA (in Spanish). Watch it to practice your listening comprehension, or just to learn. Side note-- where do you think the people in the video are from based on their accent? Do they use any regional vocabulary? You can also take this quiz (also in Spanish) about AIDS.

I've never been there, but I guess at either Mexico or Venezuela. My third choice is anywhere else in South America. If it's Spain I'm going to drown myself.
|
I'm pretty sure it's neither a Spanish nor Mexican accent. So I think you're safe. (stay away from the swimming pool)

There're millions of people infected with that virus and the people needs a fast cure for that disease, I have never seen that situation and I don't want to be, but well just we should fight upon the diseases coming the information to every people that can be useful this documentary.

It's an accent rather easy to identify once one has seen a few South American telenovelas... ;)
|
Yes, it's true. And it's not from Spain. We don't say "ve" but "uve" :)

The accents? Where are the accents from? Ecuador?
|
My guess is Venezuela (from movies filmed there), although the accent is very close to the Spanish I learned in Central America (a cross between the castellano of Honduras and Nicaragua).
By the way, the quiz had some hiccups. I answered all but one question correctly, but it said I missed several. |

Nicely spoken Caribbean accented Spanish spoken by well-educated people. It could have been finely-spoken Barranquilla Colombia Spanish but the actors don't look Barranquillero. The end of the video gives it away.
The credits show it was filmed in Caracas (Venezuela) |

Ok. Irmamar.
Thank you for your support with your fast answer. |

How do you spell "v": ve or uve? |
I spell of the same way that everyone says it VIH.

That's curious
