No sé muy bien cómo traducir esta frase:

Su naturaleza es la de un texto legal.

If you want it be emphatic, say by its very nature, it is a legal text.
(This may not sound like good English, but it is.) Very is usually an adverb but sometimes it changes hats:shh:

Yes, I know that very could be translated into "auténtica" (auténtica naturaleza) in this case (well, I think so :D).

En ente caso traducería very como verdadera, pero auténtica serviría tambien. (es claro que very y verdad tienen las mismas raices)

Change hats es un dicho que significa cambiar profesión.

Así, en este caso sería cambiar de función, ¿no? :)

Claro que sí. Usé el dicho metafórico para el propósito de demostrar un uso común en inglés.
