Aquí también. Aunque no existen vaqueros como en Estados Unidos. Más bien lo que hay aquí son ganaderos. :)

Más o menos correcto hermit.

La traducción de "cowboy=vaquero", pero como irma dijo, no decimos vaqueros si no que ganadero. En Chile como dices tú, es huaso, pero huaso también es aplicado para toda persona que viene del campo.

Sí, entiendo que "huaso" también puede ser simplemente "campesino".

Había un grupo de cantantes llamado "Los Huasos Quincheros" que me
gustaba escuchar...

How about the word "gaucho"? I think that it's probably very unique to the Rio de la Plata regions, Argentina and Uruguay, etc. Take a look at this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaucho (in Spanish: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaucho ). My Uruguayan friends use the word "cowboy" to explain "gauchos" to me.
