To be in the red = to have a negative amount (in an accounting sense)

Our business was in the red this quarter.

The opposite is "in the black"

My bank account is finally in the black.

This is the only phrase that I know of like that.

I agree with Awaken. In the US, "to be in the red" means you owe money or you lost money, and "to be in the black" means you have money or earned money.
