"Saw it" - lo vi?

Obama spoke to the nation last night, but I didn't see it.

Obama habló a la nación anoche, pero yo no lo vi.

Can someone please tell me if this is correct?

Yes, that's the correct translation of your sentence in English.

However, shouldn't the sentence be "I didn't see him"? Actually, the sentence in Spanish wouldn't change... ;);)

Technically, you are quite right, but it seems normal to say 'it' when referring to an event involving a speech. You then see the event (it) or news item involving him. :)

Correct, although it is the same as in Spanish.
