Diferencia entre pero y sino
 

Buenas tardes,

I am trying to understand the difference between the use of pero and sino. Is sino used to make a mild correction and pero to describe a significant change in the direction of the outcome? As in:

El tren no llegó a las tres sino a las tres y media.

Ella iba a viajar hoy pero hubo un cambio en sus planes.


Can someome please confirm this?
