¡Hola! Soy 'Viajero'. Hace un año que estudio español con Rosetta Stone y hace seis meses que veo estos foros. Por los dos, he hablado algunos conversaciónes en español cuando he visitado España. Ahora, quiero aprender y practicar la idioma todo lo posible, aunque no tengo mucho tiempo cada día.

So any help through these forums is much appreciated (including corrections!)

Some comments and corrections below:

(***) "Hablar una conversación" is not a correct match of words in Spanish. "Sostener una conversación", "tener una conversación", "conversar con alguien" would be much better.

Yo también quiero practicar el español. No hay mucha gente que habla español en mi ciudad, por lo menos, no conozco a ninguna persona hispanohablante. Creo que sería muy útil usar estos foros para obtener correcciones de la lengua escrita.

Siempre está Skype o Messenger para esas ocasiones en que te gustaría practicar la lengua hablando.

Aunque bonito, ya no es necesario ir a un país especialmente para poder hablar con gente de ese país. ;)

Hello, I am Viajero. I am studying Spanish for a year with Rosetta Stone and I see this forums since six months ago. Through both mediums, I have had some conversations in Spanish when I have visited Spain. Now, I want to learn and practice the language as much as possible, although I don't always have time.


In Spanish we can understand what you are saying. I guess if you read my English version you can also understand it.

Mi advice, is that you compose in English and translate it, to the best of your abilities, to Spanish.

It isn't a good method, because you will never be sure if the Spanish version is correct. You want to learn Spanish right?

So, if I were you, I would translate from Spanish to English. That way you will have a better sense if what you are translating is correct or not (most of the time), but while you are making the effort to translate from Spanish to English you will have to consult the dictionary etc.. and you will learn a great deal.

Your corrected paragraph is fine, except for one thing: "Por medio de los dos" means you've had conversations through Rosetta Stone and Tomísimo, but what you mean is that it was with their help that you could have those conversations. So I still propose to say "gracias a ambos" / "con la ayuda de los dos".

And my advice is do not translate. The natural flow of a foreign language only comes through copying and using its own structures instead of the ones that come from your own language. (Sorry, Chileno, we'll never agree on this.) :)

¿He intentado buscar un lugar en tu ciudad donde viven o trabajan muchas personas hispanoblantes? Por suerte, vivo acerca de Londres y a veces oigo conversaciones en español el tren. Es difícil participar en esos situaciones, pero es de ayuda que escuchar. A lo mejor, hay un lugar como similar en tu ciudad.

Esto es un buena idea. Lo quiero intentar en el proximo año.

Por suerte, me gusta visitar España y el país es cerca, pero estoy de acuerdo que puede muchas cosas a casa o en la cuidad de usted.

@chileno: Thank you also for the other advice. My time is limited and I am pleased to have at least some opportunities to practice spoken and written Spanish, but I will give it some thought.

Your first point makes absolute sense and I'm pleased that "gracias a ambos" works because that's a direct translation of what I would probably say in English. I like it when that happens! :)

I've noticed since I started reading these forums about six months ago that there is a difference of opinion about your last point.

Whatever route I take next year (I only had Rosetta Stone for a year) I do know that I want to get as much practice as possible in the time I can spare.
