Is "viva" a verb or an adjective in this sentence?

La figura del gaucho sigue viva en la literatura y el folclore argentinos.

It's an adjective here; it modifies "la figura".

Gracias! If I put the same sentence in the future tense, will it be like this?

"La figura del gaucho va a seguir vivir en la literature y en el folclore argentinos."

No - there is no need to change the adjective to a verb if you change the tense of the main verb. Apart from which, you don't use an infinitive after seguir. Keep the viva.

Are you familiar with the terms I'm using?

I agree with Perikles.

@Yoodle: As "viva" is an adjective, it can't change with the conjugation.
...in any case, there could be a gerundio instead of that infinitive of "vivir", but the original sentence doesn't need it either.

Thank you!
