Llevarse un buen resbalón

Is this often used as the equivalent of to be a flop (colloquial term for: to be a failure)

I would say so.

I've never heard of it in that sense, and I found no evidence by googling or searching corpus. Also "Llevarse ..." can't possibly lead to "to be a ....".

"Ser un fracaso" means "to be a flop", and plays can "naufragar entre malas críticas" and "tener malas taquillas".

En Chile cuando algo sale mal, se puede escuchar muy a menudo:

"La tremenda resfaladita!" (resfalar=resbalar en Chile)

'toy mal?

O me 'stoy re'falando?
:)
