Globo

This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for May 6, 2008

globo -masculine noun (el), balloon, globe. Look up globo in the dictionary

Balloons are indispensable at children's parties. You've got to blow up lots of them!

Menudo globo lleva ese: vaya una borrachera.

Iris May 06, 2008 09:01 AM

That's a new one:rolleyes:

I've never heard this before, but I'll take a stab at it.
Wow! That guy sure is drunk, he can't hold his alcohol at all.

Iris May 06, 2008 02:11 PM

Good job, David. I've been asking some Spaniards today and none of them knew what it meant either...Only one of them was able to tell me and she was a friend of Alfonso's... So maybe it's something they say in his "pueblo"...

Tomisimo May 06, 2008 02:20 PM

I found a video of a party with the caption:
Quote:

Alfonso May 07, 2008 04:10 AM

Great, David, you've got it.

Iris, leave my friends alone... :p
This is for you, Iris:

Ditto. Oops! I think I'm in the wrong thread...

Elaina May 07, 2008 08:05 AM

The neighbor was really drunk las night.

or

I got real drunk last week.

Oops and pedo make a comical though stinky combo

Alfonso May 08, 2008 10:25 AM

Se me olvidaba: menudo pedal lleva ése. También se usa.

Iris May 08, 2008 11:30 AM

Pero suena super "vasto"....No offense intended;)

You both lost me there. :(:eek:

Iris May 09, 2008 12:03 AM

David,
Alfonso offered a new expression to say somebody is drunk and I said I thought it was very rude (vasto).

But I don't think it's very rude. To me, it sounds less rude than ¡Vaya pedo lleva ése!
If you use pedal instead of pedo you're softening the phrase.

Iris May 09, 2008 04:16 AM

Totally disagree. To me is the other way around. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Alfonso May 09, 2008 04:56 AM

So you think pedal is a great pedo?
To me, Spanish pedal is English pedal. That's what I think if I say: ¡Qué gran pedal lleva ese! It doesn't make any sense, but the other way around doesn't make any sense either.

gatitoverde May 09, 2008 11:32 PM

For our Mexican friends . . .

I do hope everyone here understands that to say someone is a pedo in English is a far more serious and disturbing accusation.

I didn't see your response earlier. Thanks. I now understand perfectly :)
