Using non-personal verbs (to grow/to grow plants)

I recall reading somewhere that if you want to use verbs in this way, there is some special alteration you have to make, but I could be mistaken

I grow - crezco

I grow plants - crezco plantas (?)

Do we have to write the sentence differently if the verb is acting on the object?

Thank you for helping me solve this ambiguity.

Crezco. (I grow, in size, into a mature biologic being)
Crecí / Me crié (I grew up, I was raised)
Cultivo plantas (grow deliberately)
El pan cría hongos (grow spontaneously)
Nunca me salieron las muelas del juicio (I never grew wisdom teeth)
