From India, that's really interesting. Where about from India are you from, Raji?

Alfonso, the second sentence needs fine tuning. You can say "Where about from India are you?"(It sounds a bit hayseed. Sometimes the you can be substitued with ya, at least in spoken English) , or in a finer register "What part of India are you from?", and a higher register would be "From what part of India are you?"
It's good to know all of them.

You can also say (in a lowish register): Where in India are you from? / Where are you from in India?

Welcome Raji! :) ¡Bienvenido!

So, I guess my sentence is not right because it's got two prepositions for the same verb, about and from.
Thanks for the help.
(Thanks Tomísimo for allowing autoquotes).

Iris May 28, 2008 02:38 PM

You can also say: Whereabouts in India are you from?

Oh, my God, I realise now the whole dimension of my mistake: from, about, from...?

Iris May 28, 2008 03:44 PM

Could have been worse... I guess.

Iris May 28, 2008 03:52 PM

But don't get depressed, there is always room for improvement. Although, I have to say at your age it is more difficult...

I just wanted to add a note to Spanish-speakers that the prefix auto in English usually (not always, but usually) refers to something that's automatic not to yourself. It would be better understood if you said self-quotes or self-quoting.
