Riesgo
This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for May 31, 2008
riesgo -masculine noun (el), risk. Look up riesgo in the dictionary Es mejor no correr riesgos cuando se pueden evitar. It's better not to run risks when they can be avoided. |
"It's better not to take risks when they can be avoided" sounds better to my ears.
I run the risk of being the only one with that opinion, however, even though this is a widely used phrase in American English. I've seen correr riesgos translated both ways. |
A related expression: extreme sports are deportes de riesgo.

I actually thought of that Rusty, when I was writing that one. To me, take/run a risk is pretty much interchangeable. But now that I stop and think about it, what you say would be the more common usage I think.
María, creo que he escuchado deportes extremos pero quizá es por la influencia del inglés. En todo caso, gracias por decir eso porque no había visto deportes de riesgo antes y seguramente es la forma correcta de decirlo. :) Thank you! |
