Watch out for intellect,

mouthing knowledge as your heart
falls out of your mouth.

¿Mi traducción refleja más o menos el original citado?

Pon atención a tu inteligencia,
porque ella sabe que nada sabe
y te deja colgando cabeza abajo
jactando conocimientos mientras tu corazón
cae de tu boca.

This is not quite what the line says, although your Spanish is nearer Sokrates. Her English seems to say that the intellect knows so many (useless) things.

porque ella sabe que nada sabe

Porque lo que ella sabe, sabe que no sirve. [:?:]

Correcto.

Mmm... puede ser, pero...
¿No es más o menos como Sócrates? "Yo sólo sé que nada sé"

This depends on how exact you wish to be about what Sokrates said (or what Plato claims he said) because ἓν οἶδα ὅτι οὐδὲν οἶδα (=Yo sólo sé que nada sé) is only paraphrased from Plato Apology, and he didn't say exactly that. He talks mainly of wisdom, not knowledge.

So we don't know whether Anne Sexton wanted to replicate what he said or whether she wanted to say something slightly different, because Sokrates definitely does not say what she does. I could expand on this.... :D

Espero la exégesis 'periklesiana' para una mayor comprensión.

¿Podrí servir? ► Admonitions To A Special Person

chileno January 31, 2013 06:31 AM

Como dice Perikles it can mean several things...but to me it can be taken as:

Tengo conocimiento de tanto y no puedo aplicarlo a nada

Se tanto y ¿para qué sirve?

Se tanto y no estoy seguro de nada.

;)

Estoy seguro de que Perikles te va a dar una mejor explicación.

In context, it doesn't sound much like Sokrates, so I'll stick with my suggested translation. I'm beginning to wish I had never posted.:D
