"Llevo casado nueve años con la misma mujer."
I've been married to the same woman for eight years."
Why is it "Llevo casado..."? I thought "Soy casado..." would be correct.

"crear" - "to create"... so this doesn't make any sense to me.

Both are correct. "Llevar +[-ndo] + [time interval]" is another way to say to express a duration.

As chileno says, "cree" is from "creer" = "to believe". In this context, "cree" must be indicative, and for the verb "crear" the form "cree" is subjunctive, so you can automatically eliminate "crear" as a possibility. Also, "crear que X" is very strange, but "creer que X" is natural and normal.

It's the verbal periphrasis "llevar + participio". As you are a German native speaker, you can take a huge advantage from this page and all what is linked there (I've had a hard time reading there, but it's taught me a lot)

@Premium: "Cree" can be a conjugated form of either "creer" or "crear". I can't see your link (it takes me to an error page) but if your example was presented as the verb "crear" its plain wrong.

- Juan cree en OVNIS. -> Juan believes in UFOs.
- Ella cree que yo la invité. -> She believes I invited her.
- Pedro y María están locos; ella cree que es Juana de Arco y él cree que es superman. -> Pedro and María are crazy; she believes she is Joan of Arc and he believes he's Superman.

- Para que se cree un nuevo universo de la nada, se necesita otro Big Bang. -> In order to create a new universe out of nothing, there is need of another Big Bang.

The Present Perfect in spanish sometimes uses different structures like:
Present + desde hace+ time
llevo casado desde hace 8 años
Hace tiempo que + verb in the present
Hace 8 años que llevo casado
Llevar in the present tense+ time+ gerund
Llevo 8 años estudiando inglés
llevar in the present tense + time+ sin + infinitive
Llevo 8 años sin ver a mi mujer
I haven´t seen my wife for 8 years.

In the resto of the cases, it´s the same as in English.

Cree comes from creer not crear.
