I'm worn out

I'm worn out

I've just been invigilating a four-hour exam and correcting at the same time. And I'm ready to drop dead at the slightest provocation. The joys of teaching are infinite...

Invigilate is a new word for me. The way you used it is chiefly British.

Here, we would probably use oversee, watch over, keep watch, or baby-sit. The last one is more colloquial, but gets the point across quite well. You're there to make sure nobody's cheating. There would be no need to do so if all were mature enough, hence the term baby-sitting.

To be frank, invigilate sounds quite posh to me, but it's what the British teachers always say...

Never heard it either!

I have never heard the word invigilate before either, but I am looking forward to using it sometime!

If I can remember it.

I hope you recover swiftly. :)
