Derivar en
Las protestas en Venezuela derivan en un derramamiento de sangre This confuses me. I think it means : I think it means that the protests in Venezuela turned into a blood bath, but it doen't read that way. Can derivar en mean to become? |
The protests ... result in ...
The protests ... give rise to ... The protests ... lead to ... |
Also end up...
|
Thanks.

I agree with all the above.
Just another additional usage (From Oxford) b (cambiar de dirección) derivar HACIA/EN algo: una charla que derivó en discusión = a chat which degenerated into o turned into o became an argument; nuestra amistad derivaba hacia el odio = our friendship was turning to hatred |
