La escuela de ayer - 60 words essay

Hello. I am from Slovakia and on my high school we have Spanish as a 2nd language. I don't know why, but it's really hard for me and I have really bad grades. Please can somebody check if this is correct? I don't want get an F again:( Essay must be in pretérito imperfecto and must contain bolded words.
Thanks guys!

La escuela de ayer.

Las escuelas de ayer son muy diferente. Para escribir se empleaban tinteros. En cada clase estaba crucifijo. Los pupitres tenían espacio para la pluma. Para contar se usaba ábaco. La mesa docente teníba tarima. Las pizarras se borraban con trapo. En las paredes se estaban los carteles. Las pizarras se ponían sobre un caballete. No me gusto la escuela de ayer.

English version about what I wanted to write:

School in the past.

Schools in the past were much different. Ink was used for writing. In every class there was crucifix (holy cross). Tables had place for pens. Calculator (I don't know that old word in english) was used for calculating. Teachers table had scaffold. Blackboards were cleaned with rag. On walls there were posters. Blackboards were hanged on stand. I don't like schools in the past.

Thanks!

La(pluralize) escuela(pluralize) de ayer. (sounds better in plural, just like your opening sentence - you can also say 'del pasado' instead of 'de ayer', by the way)

Las escuelas de ayer son muy diferente() (the subject is plural, so the verb and the adjective need to agree in number - the verb should be in the imperfect tense). Para escribir se empleaban tinteros. En cada clase estaba (wrong verb) crucifijo. Los pupitres tenían espacio (translate 'a place') para la pluma. Para contar se usaba (missing article) ábaco. La mesa (missing preposition and article) docente teníba (spelling - missing article) tarima. Las pizarras se borraban con (missing article) trapo. En las paredes se estaban los (wrong verb - no need for 'se' - no need for the article) carteles. Las pizarras se ponían sobre un caballete. No me gusto (wrong ending - should match the subject in person and number) la(pluralize) escuela(pluralize) de ayer.

English version about what I wanted to write:

School(pluralize) of the past (Schools of Yesteryear).

Schools of the past were very different. Inkwells were used for writing. In every class there was a crucifix (holy cross). Tables had a place for pens. An abacus was used for counting. The teacher's table had a rostrum. Blackboards were cleaned with a rag. On the walls there were posters. Blackboards were placed on an easel. I don't like the schools of the past.

Thanks!

I corrected the English version so that others could see what you were trying to write in Spanish. I've marked everything that needs to be corrected in the Spanish version, and have given a few hints.

A correction for your thread title: 60-word essay
