Well, as of tomorrow I'll never see a friend of mine (who has helped me with Spanish at college) since my computing course has finished after tomorrow. Hmmmm... she motivates me as well as I motivate myself, but yeah; should I give up Spanish? I won't really get the chance to speak it from tomorrow onwards to anyone...

Also I'm never going to be as good as Alfonso Merlos; should I just give it up? :(

I just feel like I'm pretty much nothing compared to a native and I never will be.

Also how will I know if my writing is correct say, next month?

Never ever say that. I spent 50 years of my life convinced I would never need to speak Spanish. Then things changed and I moved to Spain. I could not possibly have predicted that. How I regret that lost time.

I will never be anything like as good as native, but I'm very much better than most foreigners here. It's making the effort that counts. :thumbsup:

Well, I'm not sure what to do... what if I meet a Spanish speaking girl in the future? Hmmmm.

I totally agree with you. Perhaps you'll never know if you'd need it or not.
I have neither someone to talk to nor I want to move to a Spanish-speaking country in the near future, but I just love that language and this keeps me motivated.

I am trying to learn spanish as an individual goal, it has been a goal for a long time, I've just now gotten around to it. For some reason language fascinates me. As I study Spanish I've learned that in general we take for granted how complex verbal communication really is.

I learn more about English by learning Spanish as well. In the past, I understood bad grammar simply by hearing it. I would say in my head "that doesn't sound right". But now I can read something and describe in technical grammar terms what the problem is. Just last night I explained to my daughter that asking "how come the sky is blue.....?" is not proper grammar and that it is more correct to start with "why is the sky blue.....?"

How come is short for how does it come to be that. Because it has become so integral to English, I'm not sure if it's considered incorrect in precriptive grammar. It is certainly not very formal.
You are right. Studying Spanish will make you aware of what an intricate machine language is, and it is something that many of us take for granted.

There are only 500 million people speaking Spanish at this moment... the US is one of the places where it's growing faster...

I "never" studied English in a "formal" manner... yet, I am beginning to know that I don't know... much... of this amazing language...

They mean exactly the same. But I thought humbleness was a very obscure word, and I checked BNC for English frequency: humility 282 hits, humbleness 2.

So then I checked American usage, and hey: humility 9696 humbleness 50979

Looks like “humility” may be coming ultimately from the Middle French, while “humbleness” just comes from Middle English... (I don’t know where they will go from here on...)

Que triste amigo Liquinn. Lo siento mucho. Yo digo que debes seguir hablando y practicando el español.

Yo vivo en California, cerca de la frontera con México y tenemos más hispanohablantes que en cualquier otro lugar en los EE.UU. También tenemos muchos hablantes de español de todos los 21 países de habla hispana. Además, tengo una esposa de habla español y hablo español todos los días con ella. Pero incluso si eso no era cierto yo todavía queria aprender el español. Para mí, el aprendizaje del español es un pasatiempo divertido e interesante. El español es un idioma muy importante con más hablantes nativos que inglés tiene.

Tienes este foro de habla español para comunicarse en español. También aprender español puede ayudarle a aprender otros idiomas como italiano, portugués e incluso francés.
Así que nunca se sabe cuándo se puede necesitar hablar español. Nunca pensé que iba a ir a México. Nunca pensé que iba a vivir dos años en Italia. Esté preparado para lo que pueda pasar en el futuro y de todos modos aprendiendo español es divertido y interesante.

En mi caso, estoy pensando en dejar el inglés. jajajajajajajajajajajaja...

Hablo ingles y español, en este momento estoy aprendiendo español porque español es mi pasión. Inglés es muy fácil para mi porque ingles es mi idioma nativo. Vivo en Inglaterra, Inglaterra es mierda.

Prefiero inglés porque inglés es mi idioma nativo y español es mi segundo idioma pero yo hablo los dos idiomas. He estado en España cuatro veces y es una de las razones por las que decidí aprender español, eencuentro aprender español me satisface. Me encanta el acento español y españoles me fascinan y el español es un idioma hermoso. Me encantan los dos idiomas y creo que escribir un idioma es más difícil, me gusta hablar español muchísimo y estoy motivado a aprender español. Tengo que admitir que españoles suena bien. Otra razón por la que yo prefiero inglés es que más que bandas cantan en inglés y no en español. El idioma español es maravilloso y perfecto.

Estoy apprendiendo español. :) Inglattera es una mierda porque prefiero las chicas españolas. No me gustan las chicas inglés... Me gustan las chicas que son sociales y me gustan las chicas que hablan español y que les gusta la música metal pesado también.
