Control férreo

ROBINDESBOIS June 07, 2013 06:14 AM

Control férreo

Tener control ferreo sobre algo o alguien.
How can we say this in English?

Probably, "to have a very tight control over something or somebody" (let's see what the natives say.) "Férreo" would be "steely", but you use that for a "steely determination" o you can say something like "iron will" (voluntad férrea).

For discipline and control "strict", "strict control" may be better, although it sounds weaker to me in English...

Strict, rigid schedule...
Fierce, determined opposition
Si es un marcaje férreo = a very tight, very close marking (sports...)

HIH!

It depends on the wider context but I would say tight control would apply to something of a non-critical situation. Strict control is just that bit more crucial. For me ferreo is an iron fist attitude towards a situation. The latter may be correct but depends on the wider context. Hope this helps:)

It can be nicely translated as "ironclad control".
