With OF MASS PRODUCTION, a post-modifier that shows definiteness, must there be THE before BOLSHEVIK?

I see nothing wrong with the sentence as written, nor as you have proposed. Both work.

"The" is optional,and it's an option I would choose. The comma, however, is wrong and should be omitted.
