Hallarse en una situación en que no se tienen grandes adversidades o trabajos, pero tampoco muchas ventajas.

Me costó tiempo a ver si existe un dicho en inglés igual y eureka se me ocurrió. To mark time tiene el mismo significado.

ir tirando (vivir solucionando un sinfín de problemas cotidianos, sin satisfacer aspiraciones ni colmar expectativas) ~= to (just) get by [as "to manage to survive" or "to succeed at a minimal level of acceptability"]

Another idiomatic term for this is to tread water.

What about coping with.?

"Coping with" I understand it as "arreglárselas"... which seems close enough. I think that Alec's translation, "to [just] get by" is the best translation.

"We're getting along" or "life goes on" are also good translations. I remember they always used to say that, "estamos tirando", in Spain.

Hi deandddd, in Spain to say "Vamos tirando". Is the verb "Ir" no "Ser"

@Alex: Look out. "Estamos tirando" is using the verb "estar", not "ser". :)

In Spain is "ir tirando"...

"Estamos tirando" sounds "odd" to an Iberian ear... ie... you can use it but NOT naturally in the sense of "getting along"...

Ah, I have just realized what you are saying. So I have to say "vamos tirando" and not "estamos tirando"? Is this it?
